Hurricane Winds

Women Match Report -

Gale force winds and on a muddy bobbly pitch. Winning the toss and playing into the wind, it looked like it could go against us, the opposition coming close 3 times, the closest had Danni diving to her right and just palming the shot wide.

Once the ladies had weathered this storm, it was really only a matter of time before we would score, keeping the ball on the ground, and making those killer through balls, Grace went close 3 times, just clipping the post and into the side netting, before finally Kitty got on the end of one pass, and slotted it keeper.

Freya/Kirsty in the middle running the game. Iona kept probing down the wing and was getting some great crosses into the box, but the conditions did not allow the forwards to guess where the wind would blow the ball, finally the persistamce paid off, and she drove down the wing, cut back in and trickled the ball past the keeper into the net. Then a foul just outside the box gave the opposition a lifeline just before half time, but the ball dropped straight into Danni's hands.

Second half, started and we continued to press for another goal. The few chances the opposition had where dealt with easily, Libby on the right and Lauren on the left, stopping thier wingers, and then playing the ball out, Trixie and Gracie in the center picking up any loose balls, that got through. As the game progressed and we had more posession our defenders fancied getting on the score sheet, and pushed forward hitting shots just wide. Millie got through on goal but was denied. Katie, battled away up front and was unlucky to not score.

When the ball stopped getting to her, she came back into the midfield to help close down and win the ball, and finally the persistance of the midfield and forwards paid off, they broke down an attack, and moved the ball forward, and Kirsty let fly, hitting a long shot, that sailed into the net, 3 - 0.

The game was over, but a couple of hard tackles outside our box gave the opposition freekicks in goal scoring positions, but the Bury team was not going to give up the clean sheet.
