This morning saw a close game which pitted old rivals Stripes and Blacks head to head at Wodson. Making their Bury debuts for the Stripes this morning were rookies Emily and Aiden. From what we saw, these two have promising careers ahead of them.
The first quarter saw a strong start for the Stripes, who started like racehorses out of the stalls. Ellis's safe hands in goal weren't troubled while the forwards were busy in the Blacks half. Some great team play and breaks were rewarded by a goal from Lawrence. Second quarter, the team built on that with a goal from Aiden and another from Lawrence, supported by great attacking from Emily and Harry and defensive and build up play from Alfie, Alex and Ellis.
It was, though, characteristically a game of two halves, with the Stripes loss of focus in the third quarter being punished by the Blacks as they got into their stride; a great goal from Ben and later one from Dom. The final quarter saw the Stripes back in the game with lots of pressure on the Blacks goal, and a great run two third the length of the pitch from Emily. The Blacks solidity at the back denying any addition to the score sheet.
Well played everyone - just remember Stripes; it's not over 'til it's over!
See you at training on Monday,
Andy and Francis
