Good to get back on the pitch after the break, we were slow out of blocks and conceded several early goals. But as we moved into the 2nd and 3rd quarters, the game was much tighter and the scoreline a lot closer.
Zach Knight worked tirelessly as Captain, instinctive breaking down several opposition attacks. As we grew in confidence to take on the opposition and exploit the wing we saw plenty of positive runs from Mason Jones, Dylan Wykes and Devon Oakley. Ryan Harrison-Stoke didn't show any nerves as he stepped up into a challenging fixture and worked hard. It was great to welcome Nixon Osman-Downes into the squad for his first league match, showing great awareness as he recognised the opposition threat and was happy to support building play from the back. We did manage to get a goal (and the only goal of the third quarter), a well worked and placed shot by Owen Pope who also worked hard all match to try and find and exploit space.
The league matches were always going to be baptism of fire for our players, but they responded well and got more organised and talked more as the game progressed. We stuck to our principles with four keepers playing, all of whom made good saves and worked on what we've been practising. A special call out to Mason Jones who gets my MOM vote for his effort on the pitch and also a superb double save in the last quarter which sadly saw him leave the field for the last couple of minutes.
Well done all! and thanks to all the spectators for all your support.
