A mid afternoon kick off over at John Warner brought out the warm summer sun as we faced Hoddesdon Owls Eagles.
Ella-May Ince bravely went in goal for the first half in the absence of Madison and gave things a real good go. It was an evenly contested first quarter with both sides trading time in the midfield battle. Then three quick goals by Hoddesdon one of which included a penalty which seemed a little harsh for hand ball sent us in behind at the break and unlucky I would say to be that margin down.
Sophie Christer volunteered to go in goal for the second half which was an even braver decision considering this was her first game back since breaking her wrist in pre-season training and although another three goals were conceded after the break one of which was a superb long range short, Sophies Cameo in goal should not be over looked.... there were some amazing saves made of which earns her the player of the match award this week both.
Other stand out performances for me this week which deserve a mention was ......
Ava Meekcoms who worked tireless on the right hand side of midfield and had some very good powerful runs down this flank one of which nearly resulted in a goal.
Amelie Powis who forged a lone figure at times up front and keep on trying to get on the end of things only to be crowded out by the numbers of the opposition. Some good skills and trickery also on display and it was Amelie at half time who as captain took control and gave ideas on how we could play differently to her team
Lily-May Patmore - never stopped running all game. She really is starting to get the message that pressing the ball makes such mistakes
Katie Marshall - Like a rock at the heart of the defence, made some critical tackles and interceptions and powerful clearances gave us chances to get up the field.
Keep trying girls and working hard. We are one team and we fight for each other.
