A rest from the Leagues this week pitted us against Harpenden Jaguars in the League Cup Round 1.
We had the better start in the first half and had several chances to go ahead but just couldn't get the breakthrough. Harpenden stuck to the guns and made life difficult for us getting many players behind the ball at all teams and defending doggedly, they did have some chances of there own as well.
The girls were upbeat when they came of for half time and determined to take charge of the game in the second half and do that they did with a goal straight out the traps. There is debate around whether it was Amelie Powis or Rhianna Venables who scored it but I believe Amelie wish to let Rhianna take the credit, what a team mate!
Play had only just started when we found ourselves in the box again after some great work on the right by Ella Richardson to play in Amelie Powis and there was no doubt this time whose goal it was with a powerful finished in the top right corner given their goal keeper no chance.
Some beautiful interplay with Rhianna Venables and Amelie Powis then saw Ella Richardson once again take the ball at pace down the right and this time slotting in Alysia Lawrence to open her account after going close a few times earlier in the game.
With about 10 minutes to go and after both Katie, Ella and Rhianna went close we had yet another corner, Amelie Powis took the corner and the ball fell to Alysia Lawrence who cooley slotted home to make the game safe
Harpenden still had time for a few chances of their own and Rhianna and Madison combined to snuff out the danger and earn our first clean sheet of the season.
Player of the Game was Amelie Powis - As voted by the opposition.
Well done to all the girls. Go! Go! Bury!
