This morning saw the stripes welcome Ben Hunger, a new starter with Bury, into the side. Ben quickly shook off any pre match nerves and showed strength in both defence and attacking positions. It is clear that he is going to be a really useful member of the team. Welcome Ben and well done on your debut!
The Stripes made a strong start in the first quarter, with Miles scoring an early goal and Freddy making some good saves aided by good defensive play from Alex and Nixon. But it became clear that our opposition this week were a class outfit. The second quarter saw us add Nixon to the midfield under the powerplay rule. He and Ben worked tirelessly pushing the play up the field but could not quite penetrate the Lions' organised defence. Meanwhile Miles made a number of saves which could only be described as spectacular, and kept his cool under extreme pressure in the Bury goalmouth. The second half saw the Stripes squad strengthened by Matthew, on loan from the Lions. With his help we tipped the balance of play with three quick goals. He and Miles, supported by Nixon formed a useful partnership in the final quarter but just couldn't find the net. Aiden guarded the Bury goal with his characteristic businesslike style and match ended with some really well balanced play between the two sides.
Well done Stripes!
