The Stripes put in a great performance this morning to secure a win away at Stevenage.
Quarter one saw the Stripes settle into an organised rhythm, with Ellis Hurley confidently staving off a couple of early forays on goal from the home side, assisted by Alex Rhind defending doggedly. Two goals came for Luca Kryzala, the second off the back of a truly massive throw in from Dominic McKenna. The Stripes had got into their stride.
Quarter two saw Luca make a couple of saves but most of the action was in the Stevenage half, with Jess Botheras and Ryan Harrison-Stokoe working tirelessly pushing up, their efforts rewarded when Dominic McKenna scored his first. The Stripes came out confidently after half time to consolidate their lead with two further goals, from Dom and Luca. It was by no means one sided though, with Alex and Ryan having to defend against some breaks and Jess showing herself to be a fearless keeper in her area.
The final quarter saw more sustained pressure from Stevenage which called for more solid defending from Ryan, Jess and Alex and a fantastic save from Dom of a powerful shot destined for the Bury net. Luca put two more away to which Ryan added a good goal, sealing the end of the league season with a top - drawer performance.
Thanks are also due to Jon Hurley who made his debut as Assistant Manager for the Stripes, and was a great help in making sure everything ran smoothly from the touchline.
It was great to see the team working together, thinking about position and passing fluently. Great performance Stripes - all that dabbing and flossing was well deserved!
