An exciting friendly game this morning against Ware Lions Whites gave Bury Whites the chance to develop their skills and teamship in a match environment. It was great to see both teams getting stuck in and building their confidence in a game which was more evenly balanced than the 11 - 5 scoreline suggested.
Zach Knight took the captain's armband this week and showed his unique brand of quiet leadership to keep his team focused on maintaining their positions and putting into practice the skills they have learnt in training. He was also responsible for securing 5 of Bury's goals. As usual, all players in the 8-strong squad were rotated regularly through the game to give them a chance to play in goal, defending and attacking positions. As well as contributing in a range of positions Aaran, Abi, Fletcher and Edward took spells in goal, each making good saves when the pressure was on and showing good awareness when passing the ball out to their team. Max and Alexander formed a solid midfield, pressing up in possession and falling back quickly to assist in defence when the Lions were on the break. Special mention should go to Teddy for a fantastic work rate and scoring 6 goals.
It was great to see the team taking responsibility for their tactics both on the pitch and between quarters and particularly pleasing to see their early reflections on using space and communication being put into practice as the game went on. I'm sure everyone really enjoyed themselves this morning - well done Whites!
