Vs Garston Lions
Well done girls against what we knew would be a tougher opponent who made certain that it was going to be harder for us to play first half by getting all their team behind the ball and making it hard for us to break them down. But we stuck to our task to play football which was great!
The deadlock was broken after 5 minutes when a long throw into the box by Katie Marshall caused havoc with Alysia Lawrence flicking the ball on for Lydia George to calming slot in for the opener.
We had many more chances and a little bit morr luck could of seen Alysia, Faye, Sophie and Lydia all on the score sheet. But its pleasing to see us getting into these positons more often.
Garston kept us honest and had the odd chance of their own and their number 9 looked a threat but our defensive line held firm and Meg often mopped things up with confidence.
Bury 1 vs 0 Garston
We spoke at half time about how we needed to up our tempo and press further up the pitch and ensure we were first to the ball.
It worked and we were soon 2 v 0 up as Meg cleared her lines with a firm direct ball forward from the back which alluded the keeper and gave us the buffer we had worked so hard for.
Second half we saw Ava on the right a constant threat and coupled with Georgie on the left was causing the oppositions back line alot of problems.
What we did so well as a team today was battling for the ball and each other. breaking up the play, pressing their defenders into mistakes from the front so they never had time on the ball and breaking the midfield lines with our passing, more so in the second half which helped us control the game.
With 10 minutes to go Maisy put an assured through ball down the middle to Alysia who out muscled her defender and dashed away with pace and finished excellently low into the net to put the icing on the cake.
There was still time for a few more corners as well where we had taken what we had learned in training into the game with runs confusing the oppositon. Georgie also went close near the end as Katie set her away sprinting down the left.
A special mention and a well done to Erin Kavanagh who made her debut for us and looked strong on the ball with some powerful runs and some good defensive break up play in the centre of the park.
Bury 3 vs 0 Garston
Player of the match voted by Garston was Madison
Player of the match from my side of things was Alysia. Her tireless pressing and dangerous runs stood out and she got her reward with a super well take goal.
But seriously the decsion making all the girls as a team are now making is a joy to behold and the confidence running through you all is to be admired. Give yourselves a big pat on the back
